Sweet Almond Oil
Prunus amygdalus dulcis

Sweet almond oil is a gentle, vitamin-rich oil that softens and nourishes without heaviness. Mild and versatile, it suits dry and sensitive skin.
A natural history
The almond is one of the oldest domesticated trees on earth, grown across the eastern Mediterranean, the Levant, and Central Asia since the early Bronze Age. Its kernels were pressed into a soft golden oil that became a fixture of the ancient cosmetic shelf, valued as a lubricant for massage and a base for the perfumes and ointments of Greece, Rome, and Persia. Apothecaries reached for it so often that it became the quiet workhorse behind countless balms and creams.
Almonds also carry a surprising cultural weight. They appear in the Hebrew scriptures as among the finest fruits of the land, and as the rod of Aaron that miraculously budded and bore almonds overnight. The tree blossoms early, often the first to flower at winter's end, which made it a long standing symbol of hope and new beginnings across the Mediterranean world.
What it does for your skin
Sweet almond oil is a classic emollient, prized for the way it softens and cushions dry skin. A controlled study found that a daily fifteen minute massage with almond oil was associated with a lower chance of developing stretch marks in pregnancy, an effect tied largely to the massage itself.[1] A dermatology review of topical options notes that massage with almond oil is among the few approaches with any supportive signal for the look of stretch marks, while underlining that the overall evidence is limited.[2] In a formula it brings slip, softness, and a nourished feel.
