A natural health pioneer

Glenda Boren-Paschal had been a natural health enthusiast since the 1970s, back when reading ingredient labels made you the eccentric one at the grocery store. When her husband became terminally ill, she went searching for anything that could ease the burns and irritation left by his radiation treatments. Her search led her to healing clays.

What began as caregiving became a calling. Glenda studied every clay she could find, learned their properties and uses, and became a genuine expert. And because she always took beautiful care of her own skin, the clays soon found their way into her facial masks.

Her grandkids learned to approach her cookie jar with caution. You never knew if you were getting chocolate chip or clay chip.

The research goes east

Cliff Boren grew up in Glenda's health-conscious home, graduated from Millsaps College, and moved across the world to live and work in Asia, where traditional medicine isn't alternative. It's simply medicine.

After years of product development work with constant chemical exposure, he traveled to Thailand in 2006 for a supervised water fast, where he was given clay daily as part of the detox. The results fascinated him. He dug into the science and found his path converging with his mother's. Much of what they learned together is collected in Healing Clays: History, Science and Uses of the Earth's Best Kept Secret.

The first proof

The first proof came from inside the family. Cliff's sister Suzanne had spent more than 20 years in the cosmetic industry and knew every promise the beauty counter makes, and exactly how few of them hold up. When she started using what her mother and brother were working on, her skin changed. She rebuilt her regimen around it and insisted the world needed to know.

Their energies and backgrounds came together, and in 2008 they formed Mississippi Miracle Clay, reviving an old and long forgotten idea in natural skin care.

The same standard, eighteen years on

What began with one family's research has grown into a full line of clean, plant-powered skincare: serums, facial oils, balms, soaps, and more, formulated around proven botanical actives.

Today Cliff carries the work forward as the line's formulator, guiding every product from first idea to finished bottle in Verona, Mississippi, and continuing his training in natural health.
