The Better
Without List
Clean skincare is as much about what we refuse to use as what we put in. These are the ingredients we never formulate with, so every bottle stays transparent, botanical, and mineral-rich.
What clean means here
Every bottle keeps a simple promise: lead with botanicals and minerals, stay transparent, and leave out the ingredients we would not want on our own skin.
Transparent
When a formula has a scent, it comes from named essential oils and botanicals, listed in full. Never a mystery fragrance.
Botanical and mineral
Our textures come from clay, hydrosols, plant oils, butters, waxes, ferments, peptides, and vitamins.
Better without shortcuts
We skip the ingredients tied to harsh foam, synthetic slip, dated preservation, and questionable fillers and filters.
Every ingredient we leave out
Grouped by family, with the full chemical name and its common initials. We formulate without the intentional use of any of them.
Parabens
The preservatives clean beauty moved on from.
Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives
Preservatives that slowly release formaldehyde over time. Never in our jars.
Phthalates
Plasticizers often hidden inside the word fragrance.
Undisclosed synthetic fragrance
No mystery parfum, ever.
PEGs and ethoxylated compounds
Processed texture agents that can carry unwanted residues.
SLS and SLES detergent sulfates
Harsh foaming detergents that strip the skin. Our magnesium sulfate bath minerals are a different thing entirely.
Petrolatum and mineral oil
Petroleum occlusives.
Silicones
Synthetic slip that coats the skin.
PFAS forever chemicals
Fluorinated chemistry that lingers in the body and the water. No place in a botanical line.
Harsh chemical UV filters
Chemical sunscreen filters flagged by reefs and regulators alike.
Coal tar and synthetic dyes
Old-school synthetic colorants. Color should be as considered as the formula.
Microplastics and synthetic polymers
Plastic beads and synthetic films that linger in skin and waterways.
BHA and BHT
Synthetic antioxidants that keep oils from going rancid.
EDTA and synthetic chelators
Synthetic stabilizers that bind up minerals in water.
Triclosan and harsh antibacterials
Dated antibacterial agents that modern skin does not need.
Ethanolamines (DEA, MEA, TEA)
pH and foam boosters that can form unwanted compounds.
Glycols and harsh solvents
Petrochemical carriers and solvents.
Aluminum antiperspirant salts
Pore-plugging salts used to block sweat.
Hydroquinone and harsh lighteners
A skin-bleaching agent that is tightly restricted.
Beautiful skin begins with better choices, and sometimes with what never makes it into the jar.
Mineral-rich clays, botanical oils, plant butters, hydrosols, herbs, ferments, peptides, and vitamins. See every one in our Ingredient Library.
The Better Without List reflects Mississippi Miracle Clay's own formulation standard. We formulate without the intentional use of the ingredients listed here. Because our products are built on botanicals and minerals, trace amounts of naturally occurring substances may be present in raw materials. This list is not a third-party certification.
