Additional Information for keeping the hands hydrated during increased handwashing:
In the past, it was common for mostly nurses, physicians, and teachers to suffer from what many called "nurse hands" or "teacher hands" which are those dry, irritated and rough hands caused from excessive and repeated hand washing. In present day circumstances, people are more and more aware of the necessity of ample hand washing to prevent disease transmission; so now the rest of society experiences skin conditions once reserved for a more limited population. This increased awareness around handwashing has caused people to start asking "How do I keep my hands moisturized?". The American Academy of Dermatology acknowledges the importance in keeping your hands washed, but the academy also recognizes that having dry hands leaves one more prone to infections. The American Academy of Dermatology released a report on strategies to relieve dry hands caused from increased handwashing. In their report on dry skin relief from handwashing they recommend to immediately apply a hand ointment / balm or cream to the hands after washing. They do not recommend using a pump hand lotion. The ointments and balms are more penetrating and thicker which tend to help coat the hands and seal in hydration. In addition, the Academy importantly recommends to relieve dry hands caused from washing, one should immediately apply a hand ointment/balm after washing the hands. Our Restorative Hand Balm is an important part of a beneficial hand health regimen to help prevent the hands from becoming dry, cracked, red and irritated from repeated hand washing. A benefit of our natural hand balm is it only requires a small applied to the hands to help prevent a lot of these unwanted issues. In the past months, we've all come to understand we should wash our hands a minimum of 20 seconds, but another step we want to be sure to include is to hydrate the hands after washing with a good quality hand balm or ointment.
